COVERS

280.

N2 (x2), NO1 (x3) – Registered cover front mailed from Ilocos Norte on 26 Sep 1944 to the Civil Service Office, Manila. Appears to be undelivered with no receiving postal markings, the stamps being cancelled by pen. It appears to have been consigned to the Dead Letter Office at Manila for the rest of the Japanese Occupation (DLO boxed cachet in purple on top right corner). It then received a number of US censor markings after the Americans re-took Manila, including ‘Opened by Civil Mails’ and then finally forwarded with purple handstamp confirming this at bottom of cover. Very interesting and scarce usage, spanning two occupied forces. Possibly unique.
